JP Duminy played a starring role as the Delhi Daredevils edged to a thrilling four-run win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.

Duminy scored 54 as the Daredevils made 167-4 in their innings and he was the chief destroyer of the Sunrisers' fearsome batting line-up in taking 4-17 from his three overs.

But after all that it still needed a superb final over from Australia all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile to deny Hyderabad victory as he expertly stopped them collecting the 10 runs they needed off the final six balls.

Daredevils lost Mayank Agarwal cheaply, but Duminy and Shreyas Iyer built a stand of 78 for the second wicket, Iyer dominating it before he was caught for 60 off the bowling of Praveen Kumar - he hit five sixes in his 40-ball knock.

Duminy picked up his scoring pace after Iyer's departure but, with the score on 134, he departed for 54 when he was clean bowled by South Africa team-mate Dale Steyn.

Ashish Reddy accounted for Yuvraj Singh (9) before the score had ticked on another run, but Angelo Mathews and Kedar Jadhav put on 35 for the fifth wicket to see Delhi to 167-4 off their 20 overs.

Duminy also opened the bowling for the Daredevils but it was not until he returned in the seventh over that the Sunrisers lost their first wickets.

More from Indian Premier League 2015

First he bowled Shikhar Dhawan for 18 and later in the same over, the dangerous David Warner was trudging his way back to the dressing room after being caught and bowled by the spinner.

Lokesh Rahul joined Ravi Bopara in the middle and they put on 38 for the third wicket before Mathews bowled the former for 24.

Naman Ojha managed 12 before Imran Tahir struck, but it was Duminy's return in the 17th over that proved key as he struck twice and claimed the wickets of a pair of England internationals.

Bopara's innings came to an end on 41 and two balls later Eoin Morgan departed, bowled by Duminy for only one to leave the Sunrisers struggling on 129-6.

But the game was not over as Karn Sharma and Reddy built a stand that had reached 30 by the time Coulter-Nile returned for the final over with only 10 runs to defend.

It was the bowler who ran out Reddy (15) off the second ball and, with Sharma needing a four off the last ball to force a Super Over, he holed out to Mathews at long-on to finish the game and give Delhi a second victory of the season.
