Hampshire pace bowler David Balcombe is out for a month after damaging his left knee ligaments during the County Championship game against Gloucestershire.

After preliminary investigations and specialist advice, he has been cleared of any long-lasting or major damage.

However, he will require at least a month of recovery and rehabilitation before he will be available for first team selection.

Balcombe, 29, joined Hampshire in 2005 and has remained at the Ageas Bowl ever since, with a short loan spell at Kent in 2011.

Used primarily in red ball rather than white ball cricket, he has played 67 first class matches, taking 196 wickets at an average of 32.83. He had a particularly impressive 2012 season, with 59 dismissals.

Balcombe is also a handy tail-ender, scoring an unbeaten 65 in his last game against Gloucestershire, the match in which he sustained his injury.
