The Hobart Hurricanes have signed big-hitting England batsman Alex Hales for the 2014-15 Big Bash League season.

Nottinghamshire opener Hales played for the Adelaide Strikers last term and has also represented the Melbourne Renegades in the Australian domestic campaign.

Hales averages over 30 in his 107 Twenty20 matches with a strike-rate of 140.34.

He became the first Englishman to score an international Twenty20 century in March when he smashed an unbeaten 116 from only 64 balls against eventual champions Sri Lanka at the World Twenty20 in Chittagong.
