England pace bowlers Chris Jordan and Liam Plunkett have been ruled out of the remainder of the one-day series against New Zealand.

The pair were both injured during England’s defeat to the Black Caps at The Oval on Friday and will miss the remaining three matches in the five-match Royal London ODI series as a result.

Sussex bowler Jordan has a side strain, while Yorkshire’s Plunkett has a thigh strain.

Both players will now undergo a rehabilitation programme and their response to treatment over the coming days will determine the timescale for a return to competitive cricket.

Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton will replace Jordan in the squad ahead of the third match of the series at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton after he was originally called up as cover on Saturday.
