Stuart Broad and Matt Prior have both undergone surgery and will begin rehabilitation programmes in due course.

England seamer Broad went under the knife to cure a long-standing knee problem, while wicketkeeper Prior has had an Achilles operation, the England and Wales Cricket Board have confirmed.

Broad battled through his knee problem during the Test series victory over India, and he is expected to be fit in time to feature in England's World Cup preparations early next year.

The ECB are hopeful that the 28-year-old will be available for the tri-series tournament against World Cup hosts Australia and India in January.

Prior lost his place in England's Test side after being hampered by an Achilles injury during the defeat to India at Lord's in July.

An ECB statement read: "The ECB medical team confirmed that England and Nottinghamshire bowler Stuart Broad has undergone an operation on his right patella tendon.

"Broad will begin a rehabilitation and recovery programme ahead of the tri-series against Australia and India early next year.
