Eoin Morgan remains hopeful of forcing his way back into England's Test plans despite being overlooked this summer by the selectors.

Morgan is a key batsman for England in Twenty20 and ODI cricket but played the most recent of his 16 Tests in February 2012.

The Dublin-born left-hander was dropped after struggling against Pakistan's spinners during a three-match series in the United Arab Emirates.

Morgan could carve out a lucrative career as a T20 freelancer but instead opted out of this year's Indian Premier League in order to push his Test claims in county cricket with Middlesex, for whom he has scored two championship centuries this season.

Eoin Morgan talks to Sky Sports News HQ

"I've always been given the same message ever since I missed out on the last series: weight of runs is going to get me back in side," Morgan told Sky Sports News Radio.

"In championship cricket this year I've scored probably not as many runs as I'd like, but I've done well.

"If I continue to do that then I will be knocking on the door for a recall to the squad somewhere down the line."

Leadership

Morgan is England's vice-captain in limited-overs cricket and - when Test and ODI skipper Alastair Cook was struggling for form earlier in the summer - was mentioned as a possible alternative.

"I'm flattered to even be mentioned in that sort of light (Test captaincy)," Morgan said.

"Captaincy is something that I really enjoy doing. Since I've taken over at Middlesex and have done it in a few one-day series for England, I've thoroughly enjoyed myself.

"It puts more emphasis on your own game and more feeling into the team's performance - and that's something I enjoy."
