Preliminary hearing into James Anderson's disciplinary charge will start next Tuesday

England bowler James Anderson will face a preliminary hearing next Tuesday after being charged following an alleged altercation with India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Anderson was charged under Level 3 of the ICC Code of Conduct after a complaint of misconduct by India, while Jadeja faces a Level 2 charge following a counter-claim by England.

The duo are thought to have been involved in a confrontation in the stairwell of the Trent Bridge pavilion as they made their way off for lunch on day two of the drawn first Test.

In the first stage of the disciplinary procedure, judicial commissioner Gordon Lewis will assess ‘preliminary issues’ during a tele-conference, before setting a date for the full hearing.

There is unlikely to be a decisive outcome at the preliminary hearing - although an amendment to the level of charge is possible for either player.

Anderson could receive a reduction from Level 3 to 2 - for allegedly ‘abusing and pushing’ Jadeja – which would drastically reduce the probability of any resulting suspension during the series.
