South Africa head into their first one-day international against Sri Lanka on Saturday with uncertainty rife in the fast bowling ranks.

Leaders of the attack Morne Morkel and Lonwabo Tsotsobe will both be subject to late fitness tests ahead of the series opener.

Captain AB de Villiers has however placed faith in fast bowlers Roryr Kleinveldt and Chris Morris, who only have 12 caps between them.

The South Africans are also expected to name two specialist spinners in a bid to take advantage of a Premadasa pitch which often favours spin bowling.

South Africa's most recent trip to Sri Lanka ended with a series whitewash in 2004 and De Villiers insists his side are out to make amends.

"We can't do any worse here than we have in the past so it's a good opportunity for us to make an improvement and make people proud at home," he said.

Nothing to lose

Dinesh Chandimal has been named Sri Lanka's youngest captain despite being in a poor spell of form as the hosts enter the series on the back of successive defeats.

However, the 23-year-old insists he is ready to put the lean patch behind him and take the side forward.

"There's nothing much to lose for me at the moment. I can only come up and there are moments where you go through tough paces," the wicketkeeper-batsman added.

"What I believe is that if I am a good player I should be able to come out of any situation."

Chandimal deputises for regular captain Angelo Mathews, who is suspended for the first two matches for maintaining a slow over rate in the final match of a tri-series against India in the Caribbean.

Sri Lanka will be out for vengeance after narrowly missing out in South Africa in 2012 with hosts clinching a 3-2 series victory.
