Hampshire and Gloucestershire were left frustrated by the rain at the Ageas Bowl as not a ball was able to be bowled on the opening day of their Division Two fixture.

Drizzle in the morning was followed by heavy downpours after lunch, meaning there was little chance of the teams ever making it out onto the field.

An abandonment was announced soon after 3pm by the umpires, denying Pakistan international Sohail Tanvir from making his debut for the home county.

Hampshire have signed the paceman - who played two Tests for his country back in 2007 - to play in all formats and is expected to replace David Griffiths from the team which drew with Kent last week at the same venue.
