County Championship: Yorkshire without Gary Ballance and Moin Ashraf for Lord's trip

Gary Ballance: Yorkshire batsman sidelined by virus

Trent Copeland: Australian seamer leaves big shoes to fill at Northants

Middlesex and Yorkshire meet in the County Championship at Lord's in the only one of this week's four Division One fixtures to start on Tuesday.

Both teams are five points adrift of leaders Sussex, whose match against Surrey at Arundel starts a day later.

Yorkshire, without an away championship win against Middlesex since 1987, have been hit by injuries to batsman Gary Ballance (virus) and paceman Moin Ashraf (stiff back).

Seam bowler Ben Coad, 19, has been included in a 13-man squad and will make his first-class debut if selected.

Middlesex are expected to make one change to the side that drew with Sussex last week as veteran seamer Corey Collymore is primed to come into the starting XI.

Also on Wednesday, fourth-placed Durham welcome defending champions Warwickshire to Chester-le-Street, while Derbyshire make the trip to Trent Bridge to face Nottinghamshire still looking for their first victory of the season.

Coping strategy

In Division Two, leaders Northamptonshire are away at bottom side Leicestershire on Tuesday looking to build on their 44-point advantage at the top.

But they are without prolific Australian seamer Trent Copeland, who has now finished his stint with the club after taking 36 wickets in seven championship appearances.

The other unbeaten team in the lower tier, Lancashire, defend that record against fourth-placed Essex at Chelmsford, while Hampshire host Gloucestershire and Glamorgan travel to Kent. Those three fixtures all start on Wednesday.
