Sri Lanka pace bowler Chanaka Welegedara has emerged as a doubt for the ICC Champions Trophy with a foot injury.

Welegedara was hurt playing for the Rest of Sri Lanka against Sri Lanka A in Pallekele on Friday, having to leave the field after bowling only 2.4 overs.

The 32-year-old has been plagued by injury over the last 12 months, groin and hamstring problems meaning he has only managed to finish one Test match.

He has also been in the wilderness in terms of the 50-over game but, despite having not played since June 2010, Sri Lanka selected him as one only four fast bowlers in their 15-man squad for the tournament in England along with Lasith Malinga, Shaminda Eranga and Nuwan Kulasekara.

Farveez Maharoof, who is not in the national squad but may have been a potential replacement, was injured during the same match and could miss two weeks.

"Welegedara came off immediately and is currently unable to put any weight on his right foot," a press release from Sri Lanka Cricket said.

"He is getting scans over the weekend and will have the results by Monday. He will not take part in the final of the SLC President's trophy, to be played on Monday."

Sri Lanka are scheduled to leave for England on May 26 with their first warm-up game against Pakistan four days later and their first tournament match against New Zealand on June 9 - their group also includes Australia and the hosts.
