County Championship: Graeme Swann makes quiet return as Notts and Durham share honours

James Taylor: Notts batsman caught behind for 97 on day one

Ben Stokes: Durham all-rounder claimed three wickets

James Taylor and Steven Mullaney missed out on centuries as Nottinghamshire were bowled out for 320 on the opening day against Durham at Trent Bridge.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 111 after Notts had slumped to 98-4 but Mullaney fell to Mark Wood for 80 and Taylor was caught behind for 97 off Gareth Breese to deny him his second hundred in a row.

Staurt Broad hit 46 to see the home side up to a third batting point and Graeme Swann - making his first appearance since leaving England's tour of New Zealand to undergo elbow surgery - was left unbeaten on eight not out.

Durham's seam attack impressed with Graham Onions (2-63) doing the initial damage with the new ball before Wood (2-58), Ben Stokes (3-58) and Chris Rushworth (2-62) took over.

Durham reached 34-1 in reply at stumps. Opener Mark Stoneman was trapped lbw by Ajmal Shahzad (1-1) for 30 in the penultimate over of the day.

Nightwatchman Rushworth (0no) joined Will Smith (3no) through to stumps.

England seamer Broad's three-over spell with the new ball cost 20 runs and he left the field early as a precaution with a tight groin, while Swann has yet to turn his arm over.
