Quick bowler Morne Morkel will miss South Africa's final Test with Pakistan because of a hamstring injury.
Morkel's place in the team is likely to be taken by Rory Kleinveldt with uncapped Dolphins swing bowler Kyle Abbott called up as cover in the absence of Lonwabo Tsotsobe (ankle).
Kleinveldt will be winning his fourth Test cap after playing in three of their Tests in Australia when conditions suited and Vernon Philander was out injured.
Abbott is the leading wicket-taker in South African domestic cricket but he is unlikely to play in the match which, despite being a dead rubber in terms of the series, could see South Africa earn a $450,000 bonus for sitting on top of the ICC Test rankings on 1 April.
"We did consider Lonwabo but unfortunately he is still recovering from an ankle injury and will only be fit in time for the limited overs segment of the tour," Cricket South Africa selection convener Andrew Hudson said.
"Kyle has done extremely well in the Sunfoil Series this season. He had an outstanding match return of 12-96 against the champion Cape Cobras and finished the series as the leading wicket-taker (49) and with the second best average (15.36).
"He swings the ball nicely and is another player who has earned a call-up through outstanding form at franchise level."
