England have suffered a fresh injury scare ahead of the Test series with India, after Stuart Broad was taken to hospital to have a scan on his left heel.
The vice-captain aggravated the problem on the second day of their tour match against Mumbai A.
Broad left the field temporarily because of pain in his left foot but returned after four overs although he did not bowl again, having managed 10 overs previously.
A statement read: "Stuart felt discomfort late on in today's play and has gone for a scan."
Fellow paceman Steven Finn will almost certainly miss the first Test which begins on 15 November with a thigh strain which he picked up in the opening warm-up match against India A.
Surrey fast bowler Stuart Meaker has been called up as cover for Finn and is expected to play in the final warm-up game against Haryana in Ahmedabad later this week.
England spinner Monty Panesar remains optimistic over Finn's fitness.
"He's in good spirits," said Panesar. "It's not a major thing - which is really good for us - and we hope he can recover in time and be available for the first Test."
