Tillakaratne Dilshan has resigned as Sri Lanka captain after less than a year in the job.
Dilshan took over from Kumar Sangakkara following Sri Lanka's defeat to India in last year's World Cup final.
But his stint in charge was not successful, Sri Lanka suffering Test series defeats to England, Australia, Pakistan and most recently in South Africa.
Sri Lanka also lost the ODIs in South Africa 3-2, victories in the final two dead rubbers not enough to prevent Dilshan tendering his resignation.
"Dilshan has resigned as captain in all three formats of the game," read a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
"Members of the executive committee take this opportunity to thank Dilshan for his commitment and dedication during his tenure as the national captain.
"We also wish him well as he continues to represent Sri Lanka as a national player."
No successor has been named but local media reports suggest Mahela Jayawardene is in line for a second spell in charge.
