Patel preferred to his Nottinghamshire team-mate in final XI

England have dropped Stuart Broad for their NatWest Series decider against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford. Broad, only recently appointed England's captain in twenty20 cricket, has been left out to make way for Nottinghamshire team-mate Samit Patel. The pitch for the fifth and final one-dayer is expected to favour the slower bowlers, making Patel a valuable option because of his left-arm off-spin. To fit in the all-rounder England had to leave out one of their front-line seamers - Broad was the unlucky man, despite finally breaking his barren run with two wickets in the comprehensive win at Trent Bridge on Wednesday. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, made two expected changes, one enforced. The injured Suranga Lakmal was replaced by fellow seamer Dhammika Prasad, while batsman Dimuth Karunaratne was handed his debut in place of Thilina Kandamby.
