Opening batsman to lead India for Windies one-dayers

Opener Gautam Gambhir is set to captain India for their six limited over games against the West Indies next month. Announcing their squad on, Friday the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Gambhir will lead the side for the one-off Twenty20 and five one-day internationals. Gambhir, who was captained India to a 5-0 win over New Zealand in a one-day series last year, will relish the chance for another crack at the captaincy after regular skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was left out. India's cricket officials said that Dhoni along with Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan would not feature in the limited overs games but the trio would return for the Test series. "(Regular skipper) Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan have been rested. They will be available for the test series," BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement. Opener Virender Sehwag will also miss the ODI series to undergo shoulder surgery and remains doubtful for the tests. The first of the limited overs internationals takes place on June 4 in the Caribbean, with the three Test series beginning on July 10. Squad: Gautam Gambhir (captain), Suresh Raina (vice-captain), Parthiv Patel (wicketkeeper), Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Subramaniam Badrinath, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Munaf Patel, Vinay Kumar, Yusuf Pathan, Amit Mishra and Wriddhiman Saha.
