Kenya skipper proud of international career

Kenya captain Steve Tikolo expressed disappointment that his farewell to international cricket ended in defeat. Kenya finished winless in the 2011 World Cup following their 161-run thrashing at the hands of Zimbabwe on Sunday. And Tikolo, who made his ODI debut in India during the 1996 cup, managed just 10 as his side were skittled out for just 147 in 36 overs in reply to Zimbabwe's 308. "I'm very disappointed as this was our last game of the tournament and we wanted to put in a good performance," said the 39-year-old. "We know we didn't do that, especially with the ball up front. And in our batting we lost wickets at regular intervals and we weren't able to build any meaningful partnerships." A veteran of 133 ODI matches for Kenya, Tikolo was nominated for the inaugural International Cricket Council Associate ODI player of the year in 2007. "There have been ups and downs but I've enjoyed every moment," he added. "I represented my country with a lot of pride and that was the case whenever I went out to play. "If the younger players move forward from this world cup, take the positives and work on the negatives, that will be a good thing." Half-centuries from Vusi Sibanda (61), Tatenda Taibu (53) and Craig Ervine (66) helped Zimbabwe end their campaign on a high. But, although happy with the win, captain Elton Chigumbura said his side needed to work harder on their batting after posting just their second 200-plus total of the tournament. "We have to take the positives from today," he said. "When we go back home, we have to continue working on our batting. "I'm very happy with the win. The guys played well all round today, especially with the bat, which is something that we've asked for the whole tournament. "You can't ask more from the bowling department, the guys have been consistent."
