Hughes ready for anything

Australia opener determined to take his chance

Hughes: Ready to go

Hughes: Ready to go

Australia opener Phil Hughes insists he is ready for whatever England throw at him in Perth.

Hughes has been recalled by Australia for the third Test after Simon Katich was ruled out through an Achilles injury.

And Hughes is a man on a mission having managed just 57 runs from three innings in the 2009 Ashes - and been dismissed twice by Andrew Flintoff.

He said: "I'm pumped, over the moon and can't wait to get out there on Thursday.

"Mentally, I feel really good.

"I've always enjoyed opening the batting. I've always done it, and it's exciting - it gets the blood flowing.

"They are going to come out firing against me. But I'm ready for it; I'm ready for anything they throw at me, and I can't wait for it.

"I lost my spot in the Australian side in England in the last Ashes series, and that was disappointing at the time.

"But I've come back in and I'm all smiles at the moment."

Despite his poor form against England, Hughes has averaged over 51 in his seven Tests to date - with the 22-year-old registering two 50s and two centuries.

And he has already thrown down a marker after a second-innings 81 against England's second-string attack for Australia A in Hobart.
