Pakistan-born spinner Imran Tahir remains hopeful of receiving another call-up to the South Africa squad.

Married to a South African woman, Tahir was called up for the Proteas in January, only to be withdrawn from the team soon after.

Tahir's permanent residency papers are expected to be in order by December though, and so the 31-year-old is dreaming of a call-up for the series against India.

"It's one of my dreams to play international cricket and that didn't happen even though I was taking wickets," Tahir said.

"I was very emotional when I got picked. I was playing for Easterns in Maritzburg and I took five wickets in the first innings.

"I heard the news soon after, so it was one of the best weeks for me, but then all that excitement went away quickly. I hope that feeling comes back again.

Tahir also revealed there was a time when he considered playing for Pakistan, however the presence of other quality players prevented this from happening.

"Obviously I wanted to play for Pakistan," he added.

"I didn't get a chance with (Saqlain) Mushtaq and Danish Kaneria in the team. They didn't think I was good enough.

"After I left Pakistan I decided I was not going back there after my experience and now if I get a chance to play for South Africa, why not?

"I am willing to do my best for South Africa."
