Hampshire may be forced to reconsider their stance over Kevin Pietersen after Michael Lumb was ruled out for the rest of the season.
Pietersen was released by England to play in Saturday's Friends Provident t20 finals day - only for Hampshire to opt against recalling him.
However the injury to Lumb could force the Hawks to back down and include the destructive batsman in their squad.
Lumb suffered a broken foot after stopping a shot from fellow ICC World Twenty20 winner Craig Kieswetter in Hampshire's County Championship game with Somerset on Thursday.
And the 30-year-old could now miss England's next Twenty20 assignments against Pakistan at the end of the season.
