Left-arm spinner handed permanent contract

Worcestershire have given a full-time contract to left-arm spinner Shaaiq Choudhry until the end of the 2011 season following a successful trial. Choudhry made his first-team debut for the county against Sussex in May and has also impressed for the second XI. "We have been looking for a young English left-arm spinner for some time and I am pleased with the progress that Shaaiq has made in recent weeks," said Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes. "This contract will give him the confidence to settle in with the club during the remainder of this season and through the winter." The Rotherham-born 24-year-old, who was on Warwickshire's books last summer, has hit three half-centuries and taken one wicket in three first-class appearances to date.
