Northamptonshire have contracted former Sri Lanka paceman Chaminda Vaas for this summer's Twenty20 campaign.
The 36-year-old will remain for the entirety of the Friends Provident t20 tournament, but should also arrive in time to feature against Surrey in the LV= County Championship clash next week.
Vaas becomes the county's second signing for the Twenty20 format, following Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura into Wantage Road.
Northamptonshire had been in the market for a second overseas player after the signing of India opener Virender Sehwag was blocked by his national board.
"We have secured the services of a world-class performer with enormous experience in all formats of the game," stated head coach David Capel.
"This is a major boost to our hopes of success and Chaminda is with us through this vital phase of the season.
"Having spoken to him, I know he is very enthusiastic about coming here and is geared up for this opportunity."
Vaas is Sri Lanka's most successful seam bowler of all time, having taken 355 wickets in 111 Tests and claimed 400 victims in 322 one-day internationals.
He recently represented the Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League and has previous county experience having played for Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcestershire.
