Worcestershire wicketkeeper heading to The Oval on a three-year deal

Surrey have completed the signing of wicketkeeper Steven Davies from Worcestershire on a three-year contract. The 23-year-old England international will leave New Road at the end of the current season after rejecting the chance to stay put. Surrey had given Worcestershire 28 days' notice of their intention to make an approach for Davies earlier in the season. He has kept wicket for the England Lions on a regular basis and made his senior international debut in a Twenty20 international against the West Indies during the winter. A former England Under-19 captain, Davies came through the academy ranks at Worcestershire and made his debut for the county in 2005. He is also known as a performer with the bat, particularly in limited overs cricket and has regularly opened the batting for Worcestershire in that form of the game. Davies topped 1,000 first class runs the season after his debut when he scored a career best 192 against Gloucestershire at Bristol. Surrey are also expected to re-sign Worcestershire spinner Gareth Batty after the Royals agreed to release him from the final year of his contract. Batty, who has also been attracting interest from Warwickshire, began his career at Yorkshire before moving to Surrey in 1999. He spent three years at The Oval before making the switch to Worcestershire the following summer in 2002.
