Drink driving shame for Glamorgan batsman

Glamorgan have suspended batsman Mike O'Shea for three weeks following an alleged drink driving offence, the club have confirmed. Following a disciplinary hearing, Glamorgan Cricket said the 21-year-old had "severely broken the club's code of employment". Director of cricket Matthew Maynard said: "The club takes matters like this extremely seriously. "Mike O'Shea is a talented cricketer at Glamorgan but he has severely broken the code of employment. "This will not be tolerated; he has been duly suspended and we can only hope that he uses this time as a period of reflection."

Embarrassed

O'Shea said in a statement: "I am deeply embarrassed about my behaviour and I apologise unreservedly to Glamorgan and the supporters for the effects my actions have had on the club. "I accept without question all the sanctions the club have decided to impose on me. "Drink driving is utterly unacceptable and totally out of character for me." O'Shea, who previously played for England Under-19s, was arrested at Sophia Gardens, near Glamorgan's home ground, the Swalec Stadium, in Cardiff. A police spokeswoman said: "South Wales Police attended a road traffic collision involving one vehicle at Sophia Gardens at around 4am on Thursday, May 28. "A 21-year-old man from Barry was arrested and charged with drink driving."
