The former New Zealand captain ended his highly successful stint with the county by leading them to second spot in both the four-day format and the Pro40 League.
Now wicketkeeper Chris Read takes over and is charged with the task of making sure they keep their dual top-flight status.
The new captain will not be helped by the fact that two of his key bowlers could be taken away from him.
