Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitharan have both been axed from Sri Lanka's squad for the one-day series in the West Indies. The duo have been omitted from the 15-man squad as part of Sri Lanka's plans for the future - with left-hander Jayasuriya now 38 and off-spinner Muralitharan 35. Off-spinner Ajantha Mendis, 23, will replace Muralitharan for the one-dayers while Mahela Udawatta will come in place of Jayasuriya. "Jayasuriya did not perform well in Australia," Sri Lanka chairman of selectors Asantha de Mel told AFP. "We have three years to groom a team for the 2011 World Cup and younger players must be given a chance." Jayasuriya is one-day cricket's second highest scorer with 12,310 runs from 411 matches, while Muralitharan has 464 one-day scalps to his name. All-rounder Kaushalya Weeraratne, 27, is also named in the Sr Lanka squad five years after his last one-day appearance. However, young fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been ruled out with a foot injury.
