Rafique set for swansong

Veteran spinner to retire after South Africa series

Rafique: calling it a day

Mohammad Rafique will retire from international cricket after Bangladesh's home series against South Africa.

Rafique, 37, has been recalled as part of a 17-man squad for the two Tests against the Proteas after missing the recent visit to New Zealand.

The left-arm spinner is Bangladesh's leading wicket taker with 94 in 31 Tests since they were granted Test status in 2000.

"Rafique is our most experienced spinner. We have recalled him because our chances of winning the series depend on him," said chief selector Rafiqul Alam.

The opening Test starts in Mirpur on February 22 followed by the series decider in Chittagong (Feb 29-Mar 4).
