Northamptonshire batsman David Sales has stepped down from his role as captain of the County Championship side.
The 30-year-old has been Northants skipper since 2004 but has now announced that he will relinquish the role for the upcoming season.
Sales scored 1,384 first-class runs last season at an average of over 55, and he will continue to play on for the county despite handing in the captaincy.
Sales says he will back whoever comes in as the new captain, after feeling the time was right for a new man at t he helm.
"It was a difficult decision to make as I have enjoyed enormously my time as captain," Sales told the club's official website.
"But I feel the time is right to provide the opportunity for the club to choose someone else to have the privilege of leading the side.
"Of course I will give whoever is selected my full support and I am looking forward to the new season and helping the club towards challenging in all competitions."
