Sussex batsman Michael Yardy will captain the England Lions on their tour of India at the end of January. England off-spinner Monty Panesar has also been named in the 13-man squad after being omitted from the one-day team heading to New Zealand. Worcestershire seamer Kabir Ali, World Cup opener Ed Joyce, Warwickshire batsman Jonathan Trott and Durham seamer Liam Plunkett are the other players selected to have won full international caps. Durham paceman Graham Onions will again hope to prove himself to the selectors as he strives to move up to the full squad, while Middlesex bowler Alan Richardson is a surprise selection at 32 years of age.

Prospects

Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid, 19, has also been picked after winning the Cricket Writers' Club Young Cricketer of the Year award for 2007. And Worcestershire wicketkeeper-batsman Steve Davies will keep wicket, while left-handed Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry and Somerset batsman James Hildreth make up the rest of the squad set to compete in the Duleep Trophy starting on February 3.
