Veteran fires on Sri Lanka's opening tour match in Australia

Veteran Sri Lanka batsman Sanath Jayasuriya found some early form on their tour of Australia with a superb 154 in the opening match. Sri Lanka made 335-4 on the first day of their tour opener against a Chairman's XI in Adelaide, with Jayasuriya signalling he is ready to take on the Australians. Several Sri Lankan batsmen got stuck in to the tame Australian bowling attack made up from players not needed for domestic action, although there was a blow with an injury to wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara. The wicketkeeper-batsman had to retire hurt after making just one run and he had to limp out with a thigh injury. Marvan Atapattu made 56 and Michael Vandort 55, while Thilan Samaraweera finished the day on 53 not out. Jayasuriya was the star of the show though, as he made a brilliant 154, carving up the likes of Paul Rofe and spinner Cullen Bailey, who was hit for three sixes on the bounce in one over.
