All-rounder named new captain after signing two-year deal

All-rounder Rikki Clarke has moved from Surrey to join Derbyshire and has instantly been named as his new county's captain. Clarke struggled to get regular action at the Oval last season and has decided a move is the best thing for his career. Derbyshire lost their captain with Australian Simon Katich heading home in a bid to get his place back in the Baggy Greens squad. Clarke made two Test appearances for England and 20 one-day internationals, but failed to build on the promise he showed early on in his career. The 26-year-old has now signed a two-year deal with Derbyshire. "I am delighted to have signed a player of Rikki's quality - he will be a massive addition to our squad," said Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris. "The great thing about Rikki is that despite his already fantastic record, he still wants to improve and he quite rightly has ambitions to play for England again in the future."
