Maddy joins rebel ICL

England's Maddy is latest big-name to join league

Maddy: Latest player to join ICL

England's Darren Maddy is the latest big-name player to sign to a rebel Twenty20 league in India.

The Indian Cricket League (ICL) has come under pressure after India's national board (BCCI) refused to give the league approval.

Maddy, 33, played in the Twenty20 World Championships in South Africa this month. He joins names like Brian Lara and New Zealander Chris Cairns in the league.

Of the new players, Maddy is the only one who has been playing cricket regularly at the highest level, having represented Warwickshire in the County Championship. Many domestic players have also signed up to the league.

ICL chairman Kapil Dev announced: "We are extremely pleased to welcome these players to the ICL family. These talented experienced cricketers will definitely be a great source of learning for the youngsters who will play with them."

The ICL was set up in April and was due to start next month. The league is now set to start in November.

The BCCI is launching its own multi-million dollar premier league next year with the support of the Pakistan and Sri Lanka boards.
