Yorkshire celebrated a return to the top of the table with an innings victory over Warwickshire.

Yorkshire celebrated a return to the top of the County Championship table with a convincing innings victory over Warwickshire in Scarborough on Friday. The home side laboured to seal an inevitable win after Warwickshire posted just 129 in the first innings and slumped to 31-7 in the second, before Tim Ambrose stepped in to bale out their rapidly sinking ship. Ambrose put on an unbeaten 89 to lend the visitors some degree of respectability after Darren Gough and Matthew Hoggard rattled through their batting order in ruthless fashion. Yorkshire had earlier declared on 561-7, with Jaques Rudolph adding 12 runs to his overnight score of 208 before falling to fellow South African Alfonso Thomas and Tim Bresnan (101 not out) becoming the second Yorkshire player to reach a century In reply Jim Troughton and Heath Streak both went for ducks, while the Bears top order batsmen Mike Powell (six), Darren Maddy (two) and Kumar Sangakkara (four) managed just 12 runs between them. The visitors were eventually bowled out for 222 with Gough and Hoggard finishing on figures of 5-52 and 3-28 respectively to seal a convincing innings and 210 run win with a day to spare. Day two

Jacques Rudolph reached 208 not out as Yorkshire piled up 530-6 in their first innings on the second day against Warwickshire at Scarborough.

The Tykes, who started this round of matches four points behind Sussex in the Division One table having played a game more, lead by 401 and look set for a crushing victory if the weather remains good.

Rudolph's double-century was the centerpiece of a fine batting effort that also included half-centuries for Anthony McGrath (58), Adil Rashid (52) and Tim Bresnan (87no).

Michael Vaughan and debutant Inzamam-ul-Haq both missed out on the run-feast, falling for five and eight respectively, as Yorkshire initially slumped to 50-3.

But McGrath and Rudolph repaired the damage with an 83-run fourth-wicket stand that set the platform for the flowing blades of Rashid and Bresnan later in the day.

Day one

Yorkshire seamer Matthew Hoggard claimed four wickets to destory Warwickshire's batting line-up on the opening day at Scarborough.

Warwickshire were bowled out for 129 after opting to bat first, Hoggard leading the way for the Tykes with 4-33.

Alex Loudon's 33 was the top-score for the visitors, who at one stage were 47-6.

It was very much a day for the seam bowlers with Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Shahzad and Anthony McGrath each collecting two wickets.

Yorkshire openers Andrew Gale and Michael Vaughan reached 25-0 in reply before bad light ended play early.

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, making his first appearance for Yorkshire, held a slip catch to dismiss Darren Maddy early in the day, but otherwise enjoyed a quiet county debut.
