Worcestershire beat Essex by 62 runs
Worcestershire Royals moved top of Pro40 Division One with a 62-run victory against Essex Eagles under floodlights at Chelmsford on Thursday.
Royals' skipper Vikram Solanki opted to bat first after winning the toss in a match that was reduced to 38 overs per side due to rain.
Solanki's decision proved shrewd thanks to a century from opener Phil Jaques.
New South Welshman Jaques made 101 from 100 balls as Worcestershire totalled 225 all out from 37.5 overs .
Essex's reply was ruined by a four-wicket burst from Kabir Ali with the new ball.
Kabir (4-34) removed Mark Pettini (0), James Middlebrook (8), Bopara (0) and Grant Flower (5) to reduce the Eagles to 41-4.
Varun Chopra (32) and Tom Westley (36) ensured Essex were not totally humiliated but their resistance did not last and the hosts were eventually all out for 163 in the 33rd over.
