South Africa have been the surprise team of the tournament and pulled of a shock five-wicket win over New Zealand to set up the last-four clash with England, who they have never beaten in seven previous T20 matches.
England reached the last four after topping Group B and have won their last three matches after suffering an opening-game defeat to the West Indies.
However, Edwards is determined not to allow her team-mates to get complacent.
"South Africa have done brilliantly in this tournament," said Edwards. "They upset New Zealand the other night and are a young team who have been improving over the last few years.
"We won't be underestimating them on Friday. They will come hard at us."
Since the nine-run loss to the West Indies, England have secured impressive victories over India, hosts Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and Edwards is hoping for another strong display on Friday.
"We didn't start the tournament how we would like to have done against the West Indies but the performances since then have been fantastic," she added.
"If we play well hopefully we can get that final spot on Sunday."
