India, Pakistan, England and West Indies are all previous winners of the 20-20 crown, but who will shine in the sub-continent?
Darren Sammy's West Indies arrive as the team to beat but will have to overcome the huge absence of powerful all-rounder Kieron Pollard, who injured his knee playing football!
Australia are the bookmakers' favourites to lift the trophy after a remarkable renaissance in all forms of cricket under Darren Lehmann, however they have been drawn in the 'Group of Death' alongside India, Pakistan and the Windies.
Individual team guides below...
GROUP ONE
England
England, winners in 2010, have struggled in T20 cricket over the last year and are still getting used to life without Kevin Pietersen.
New Zealand
In-form New Zealand continue to prosper under captain Brendon McCullum and will arrive in the sub-continent as one of the dark horses to lift the trophy.
South Africa
Eager to shake off a 'chokers' tag in ICC world events, the world's top ranked Test team are still to prove themselves in the Twenty20 format.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka couldn't be in better shape heading into the ICC World Twenty20 under the leadership of Dinesh Chandimal.
Qualifier - Either Ireland, Netherlands, UAE, Zimbabwe
Sky Bet's Group winner odds: South Africa 2/1, Sri Lanka 2/1, New Zealand 100/30, England 4/1
GROUP TWO
Australia
Australia would cap a remarkable 12 months if they manage to justify being amongst the favourites in Bangladesh and win the trophy for the first time.
India
India will be one of the favourites in Bangladesh, where the conditions should suit them, but they arrive hopelessly out of form.
West Indies
West Indies are finally showing signs of form as Darren Sammy prepares to lead the side during the defence of their World Twenty20 title.
Pakistan
Pakistan make the short trip over the border looking to improve an already strong record in the tournament, having lost in the 2007 final before winning the big prize in England in 2009.
Qualifier - Either Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Nepal
Sky Bet's Group winner odds: Australia 2/1, India 9/4, Pakistan 7/2, West Indies 7/2
