• Buttler bld Anderson 32 (23)

Big wicket! Anderson is in on the act yet again, bowling Buttler via the England wicketkeeper's inside edge. New Zealand celebrate, they know how important that could be

  •

    Over 15 - England 126-4 (Buttler 32, Bopara 4)

Brilliant batting from Buttler, who is reading the game situation well here. First he pulls out the ramp to flick Southee over the wicketkeeper's head and then he ends the over with a second boundary, cutting a wide delivery through backward point. 175 the bare minimum for England from here?

  •

    Over 14 - England 114-4 (Buttler 21, Bopara 3)

Both sides realise the importance of this stage of the game and Buttler resists the temptation to go big, settling instead for twos while Bopara also rotates the strike well. This outfield is big and with dew making conditions slippery underfoot, England will have their work cut out defending whatever score they post later on

  •

    Over 13 - England 105-4 (Buttler 15, Bopara 1)

Just the over New Zealand were looking for. Southee concedes only two, including a wide, and picks up the wicket of Morgan, who once again struggled to make an impact today. Bopara joins Buttler and you'd say one of these needs to come off for England in these last seven overs

  • Morgan ct B McCullum bld Southee 12 (15)

Brendon is smiling now! Morgan is outdone by a Southee slower ball and chips to mid-off, where captain McCullum catches well to his left

  •

    Over 12 - England 103-3 (Morgan 12, Buttler 15)

England are giving both McCullum's the runaround here. Brendon's ambitious field-settings are being exposed as Nathan struggles to grip the ball. Buttler brings up the England 100 by drilling two fours, one through cover, the next where regulation mid-on would/should have been. 10 off the over, all courtesy of Buttler

  •

    Over 11 - England 93-3 (Morgan 12, Buttler 5)

Another nine runs added after Morgan drills McClenaghan through extra cover and away for four. Mills then does well to stop Morgan adding a second boundary, somehow getting his body in the way of a powerfully-struck pull shot

  •

    Over 10 - England 84-3 (Morgan 7, Buttler 1)

A decent over for England there. Morgan, knowing the importance of not losing another quick wicket, has traded boundaries for twos and he and Buttler pick up seven runs off McCullum without alarm. Nasser Hussain says England will want at least 170/180 from this position

  •

    Over 9 - England 77-3 (Morgan 2, Buttler 0)

Those two wickets have just about restored parity you'd say. Buttler is the new man alongside Morgan, who gets off the mark with two singles off McClenaghan

  • Lumb ct Anderson bld McClenaghan 33 (24)

One brings two! Both of England's set batsmen have gone after Lumb slices down to deep third man, where Anderson holds on to his second spectacular catch of the match

  •

    Over 8 - England 75-2 (Lumb 33, Morgan 0)

New Zealand desperately needed to break that partnership, which was worth 72 off 42 balls, and will hope it sparks a fightback. Morgan is the new batsman and comes to the crease with a solid platform laid. Crucial stage of the match right here...

  • Ali ct McClenaghan bld Anderson 36 (23)

Ali's fantastic innings comes to an end when he can only pull a short ball from Anderson straight down the throat of McClenaghan on the midwicket boundary

  •

    Over 7 - England 66-1 (Lumb 26, Ali 35)

Who said Lumb can't play spin? Well he's just done a pretty good impression of a man who can! McCullum, perhaps feeling the pressure, offers up a full toss and then a half-volley, both clinically dispatched to the boundary. 11 off the over, England's run-rate a healthy 9.5 and rising...

  •

    Over 6 - England 55-1 (Lumb 16, Ali 34)

Not often I write these words but: 'what a great powerplay for England'! Ali feasts on another short ball, this time from Anderson, pulling with his flexible wrists over short fine leg for four more. Nathan McCullum is warming up. We can expect spin very soon

  •

    Over 5 - England 48-1 (Lumb 15, Ali 29)

England are motoring along in Chittagong! They have recovered brilliantly since losing Hales second ball. Moeen has come in and taken the game right to the Black Caps, adding back-to-back fours at the start of Southee's first over. Both deliveries back of a length, both dispatched through midwicket. Southee hasn't learned his lesson, dropping short again and allowing Lumb to rock back and pull for a huge six! 18 off the over, England's best yet! New Zealand need to take pace off the ball

  •

    Over 4 - England 31-1 (Lumb 7, Ali 20)

Lumb has been subdued early on but gets in on the boundary trail midway through McClenaghan's second over. The left-armer had actually outfoxed Lumb with a slower ball but the Nottinghamshire opener still got his drive out the middle and over mid-off for a one-bounce four. Six runs off the over. England rebuilding nicely

  •

    Over 3 - England 25-1 (Lumb 2, Ali 19)

Moeen makes his move! A fantastic end to the third over as Ali takes Mills for 4, 6, 4. First he clears mid-off with an uppish drive and then the left-hander rocks back and pulls Mills for the first six of the innings. He's not finished there, either, and holds his pose as he drills an on-drive straight back down the ground and crashing into the fence. Glorious strokeplay from Moeen

  •

    Over 2 - England 9-1 (Lumb 1, Ali 5)

Ali makes a confident start, flicking McClenaghan elegantly through midwicket to get off the mark with a boundary. Impeccable timing. Lumb then misses out on a leg-side delivery but gets enough pad on the ball to allow three runs to be added. A better over from England, although it couldn't have been much worse...

  •

    Over 1 - England 1-1 (Lumb 1, Ali 0)

Just the start England didn't want! Hales has been struggling for form and his decision to charge his first ball backfired spectacularly there. Ali is in at No 3 but the batsmen crossed and Lumb was unable to rotate the strike

  • Hales ct Anderson bld Mills 0 (1)

Dream start for New Zealand! Hales charges Mills second ball of the innings - his first - and can only present a leading edge to mid off, where Anderson turns and pulls off a stunning one-handed catch!

  •

    Running late

The players are making their way out on to the field as I type. We are running 10 minutes behind schedule due to the late finish between South Africa and Sri Lanka. Anthems underway...

    Broad to play?

Our man on the ground Nick Knight expects England captain Stuart Broad to be fit to lead the side today. Toss and team news to come when we have it
