Last over of the day, Senanayake brought into the attack. WICKET! Pakistan lose a wicket, Manzoor is run out, poor, poor batting from Pakistan, a run out in the last over of the day, completely unnecessary cricket, Manzoor out because of miscommunication. And that will be stumps on day 1.

Sri Lanka are all out for 204, good effort from Mathews to get them past 200 after a collapse. Junaid was as effective as ever, picking up 5 wickets, Bhatti providing support with 3 wickets and Ajmal doing the rest. The partnership between Mathews and Eranga was crucial for Sri Lanka.
Mathews blocks a few from Ajmal and then hits it for four, square of the wicket and he moves on to 91, the reverse sweep bringing him runs. WICKET! Mathews deserved a 100 but is stumped by Akmal on 91, it is all over for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka have done well to get to 200 after a batting collapse, but it still looks like an under par score.

Mathews takes a single from the first ball and Eranga will have to survive the rest of the over from Ajmal. A big shout for lbw but the umpire thinks it may have been too high. WICKET! Good catch from the keeper, a thick edge from Eranga and Ajmal picks up his first wicket. A good partnership comes to an end. Lakmal comes out to bat with the captain.
This is the best 9th wicket partnership at this venue, Eranga goes for the slog across the line and misses the ball completely, Junaid bowls it wide of off stump. A maiden in the end, Eranga survives.

Junaid Khan comes back into the attack, Mathews takes a single from the 4th ball of the over, Eranga will have to survive two. Eranga runs the ball down to third man for a couple of runs, Mansoor gives chase and stops the ball before the boundary.
A lbw decision is reviewed by Pakistan, Ajmal to Eranga, but it was pitching outside leg stump so it is an easy review. Pakistan lose both their reviews, more of a desperate attempt at a wicket.
Pakistan's over rate is poor, 12.3 per hour at the moment. Mathews muscles it over extra cover for four, this is his highest score against Pakistan. Four more to end the over, Mathews hits it through mid wicket for another powerful boundary.

Bhatti starts his second over after lunch, Mahela runs it down to fine leg for four, it was going down leg and he is good enough to guide it on its way. Bhatti strikes again after lunch, the extra bounce is too much to handle for Mahela who edges it to the keeper, good comeback from Bhatti. Oh wait, the umpire thinks Bhatti has overstepped. It is lunch on day one and Sri Lanka are 66 for 1 after Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first. It looked like a green, fast bowler friendly pitch but Pakistan have not been able to make the breakthroughs they would have wanted. Karunaratne was the man to be dismissed thanks to a great catch from Shafiq at gully. Sri Lanka have been patient at the start, they will look to do the same after lunch.
This will be the last over before lunch, Sangakkara to face Junaid. Sangakkara hits it to deep square leg for three runs, good running between the wickets. Silva plays out the rest of the over, SL 66 for 1 at lunch.
Silva defends the first one then leaves the second ball to the keeper. Slightly fuller in length and angling away, Silva gets an edge and steers it past slips. Another maiden from Rahat Ali before lunch.

Junaid bowls it slightly shorter and Karunaratne dabs it to mid on for a quick single, a mis-field allows for the extra run making it two from the first ball. WICKET! Pakistan finally get a wicket, Shafiq takes the catch and Junaid Khan gets the wicket. Karunaratne plays a ball from outside off straight into gully's hands. Sangakkara walks out to bat. Sangakkara gets off the mark with an edge that runs through slips and gully for four, streaky start from the experienced campaigner. Six runs from the over and a wicket for Pakistan.

Ajmal introduced into the attack after drinks, Karunaratne hits it to cover for a single after blocking a few dots.
Junaid Khan comes back into the attack, Misbah searching for a wicket. Junaid has appealed for a caught behind against Silva, the umpire gives it not out and Pakistan go for the review immediately. No problem with no ball, there is a sound, there is a gap between bat and pad, this could be out. The third umpire does not give it out, it was a close call but Silva survives. End of an eventful over, a maiden in the end.
After drinks, Bhatti continues, Pakistan has bowled well but have failed to get a breakthrough. Five dots and then a couple of runs to end the over.
Silva gets a single from a full toss on off stump, edges it to deep point. A short ball from Ali and Karunaratne ducks under it. A single to cover brings up the 50 for Sri Lanka, good opening stand for the visitors.
Karunaratne comes on to front foot and drives it to cover for a couple of runs. A dot ball and then Karunaratne flicks the fuller one from his pads to mid wicket for two more. Four runs from the over, Sri Lanka 44 for no loss.
Ali continues, short ball on off stump and Karunaratne pushes it to cover for a single. Silva is beaten outside off, a bit of swing for Ali, and then he next one is left alone by Silva. A single from the over.
Much better from Bhatti, whose nerves seem to have settled, as Silva blocks out a tight maiden.
Karunaratne and Silva's communication has not been sound, with a handful of near run-outs the result. Here's another mix-up, which again almost sees a batsman short of his crease as the ball reaches the stumps. Seems only a matter of time, really.
High right elbow, full flow of the the blade - top shot from Silva, who welcomes a fine four through the cover region. Bhatti, debut nerves and all, is over-pitching too much.
Bowling to a left- and righ-hander in the same over is troublesome at the best of times, but Ali's line and length is consistently spot on. Neither batsman will be tempted outside the off-stump, though.
Bhatti, on debut, into the attack early - and soon the loose recipient of four runs through extra-cover, as Silva cashes in on some poor length. The right-armer is quick to correct, with that zippy action of his.
Ali beats Silva outside the off-stump, but later strays in line to allow for three clipped through the on-side. The bowler bites back, though, putting in a big shout for lbw to the left-handed Karunaratne. The umpire isn't buying, however, as the angle was sliding down the leg-side. Three slips, meanwhile, wait for a possible edge - which doesn't arrive, as the over closes on the quiet.
Junaid continues to Karunaratne, the straighter ball and Karunaratne drives it through the leg side for four. A big shout for lbw, Junaid hitting Karunaratne on the back leg, the umpire says not out. For Pakistan, Ahmed Shehzad and Bilawal Bhatti make their Test debut. Mohammad Hafeez is back in the team for Azhar Ali. Bhatti makes his debut and Shehzad is also handed a test cap after impressive performance in ODIs.
Pakistan have won the toss in Abu Dhabi and have elected to bowl first. The weather is bright and sunny, good conditions for cricket. The pitch is green and will help the seam bowlers.
