  •

    Over 2 Ind 5/0 (Dhawan 1, Sharma 3)

Junaid Khan to operate with Irfan for Pakistan. Two slips and a packed off side field for the seamers. Rohit Sharma has been caught on the crease, umpire gives it not out, Misbah has a chat with the bowler and slips and decided against the review. Yadav has three overs left, Jadeja has one and Sharma has three. Powerplay is taken and Dhoni brings Sharma back. The sun is not in Birmingham, can Sharma bowl a better over than the last one. Hit away for a boundary, poor start by him again. He is the only Indian bowler who has been expensive today. Sharma around the wicket to Amin and has to be very accurate. Amin works him into the leg side for a couple. Eight runs from the Sharma over.

  •

    Over 35 Pak 141/7 (Ajmal 1, Amin 7)

Six overs to go, Jadeja operating very well, working on the batsmen and setting them up, clever customer. A bit of a misfield from Jadeja, but recovers and stops any runs. Karthik joining the fielding action, stopping valuable runs. No easy runs on offer for Pakistanis. A maiden from Jadeja!

  •

    Over 34 Pak 141/7 (Ajmal 1, Amin 7)

  •

    Over 27 Pak 111/4 (Malik 1, Shafiq 36)

Lots of fielding changes inspired by those shots, Shafiq takes a single to bring the captain on strike. WICKET! Jadeja comes back with a wicket, stumps are disturbed with a great straighter ball from Jadeja, Misbah has to go. A great comeback from him after conceding 9 runs from the first three balls of this over. Shoaib Mailk, another explosive batsman, comes out to bat. Malik takes a single.

  •

    Over 26 Pak 101/3 (Misbah 22, Shafiq 27)

15 overs to go, spinners operating for India. Misbah will be debating about playing through the innings or attacking the spinners. Ashwin pauses before bowling, Misbah successfully takes a single just the same. Good fielding by Yadav, Indians are cutting down the couples to singles and singles to dots. Every stop in the field cheered by the crowd. Tight bowling and fielding putting pressure of Pakistan. Four from the over, 101 for 3 after 26 overs.

  •

    Over 25 Pak 97/3 (Misbah 20, Shafiq 25)

Jadeja to carry on, it is his accuracy that makes him dangerous. Misbah blocks a couple then gets a single to deep point. Jadeja keeps it tight, there may be another shower soon which put all the equations under pressure. Just a single from the over.

  •

    Over 24 Pak 96/3 (Misbah 19, Shafiq 25)

It is drizzling again, but play goes on. Good single from Shafiq to short fine leg, putting pressure on Kohli who is a good fielder. Ashwin bowls a wide, Dhoni stumps Misbah and appeals, Misbah is safe, the wide is given. The batsmen are happy with singles at the moment, but will look to take one of the spinners on. Five from the over.

  •

    Over 23 Pak 91/3 (Misbah 17, Shafiq 23)

India need to get wickets, they can't allow these batsmen to settle especially Misbah. Jadeja brought into the attack, replacing Kohli who just bowled the one over. This is an important spell for India. Good tight line from Jadeja to start off, not giving Misbah room to operate. Three from the over.

  •

    Over 22 Pak 88/3 (Misbah 16, Shafiq 21)

Ashwin continues, Pakistani batsmen looking to take singles and rotate the strike. It is a good ploy, to not let the bowlers settle down. Five singles and a couple from the over.

  •

    Over 21 Pak 81/3 (Misbah 12, Shafiq 18)

Kohli to bowl ahead of Jadeja, interesting move from Dhoni. A couple of runs to Shafiq as the point fielder fails to stop the ball. Dhoni trying to get some overs in, before the batsmen are settled after the break. Four from the over, Pakistan 81 for 3.

  •

    Over 20 Pak 77/3 (Misbah 11, Shafiq 15)

Last break brought wickets, what will this break do. Ashwin to start. Pakistan have 2 overs of powerplay that they can take this innings. Misbah uses the reverse sweep and gets a four, confident and unorthodox. Clever cricket from the Pakistani captain. Seven from the over.

  •

    Start of play

Umpires have finished their inspection and the verdict is that play will start in 10 minutes. It will be a 40-over game with a 20-minute interval. Powerplays will be 8 overs and 4 overs.

  •

    Inspection

The first inspection was unsuccessful, umpires deciding against restarting the game because of the rain. The covers are coming off now, umpires will check the conditions before we start.

  •

    Rain delays play

It is that kind of a day today, covers come back on and players go off. A few umbrellas in the crowd. There are two new batsmen at the crease, India on top at the moment.

  •

    Over 19 Pak 70/3 (Misbah 5, Shafiq 14)

Yadav continues, Birmingham overcast again. A good shot from Shafiq, hits it into the leg side for four. Yadav follows it up with a short ball, bouncer, Shafiq gets out of the line. It is getting darker and cloudier around the ground, more showers expected and the support staff is ready. Just the boundary from the over.

  •

    Over 18 Pak 66/3 (Misbah 5, Shafiq 10)

Just a couple of singles from the over. Ashwin maintaining the pressure.

  •

    Over 17 Pak 64/3 (Misbah 4, Shafiq 9)

Yadav controls the ball very well, the batsmen up to the task. Only three runs from the over.

  •

    Over 16 Pak 61/3 (Misbah 2, Shafiq 8)

WICKET! Ashwin spins it into Akmal, who drives only to get an inside edge onto Dhoni's pad and Kohli at leg slip completes the catch. India on top, getting wickets and slowing Pakistan down. Misbah, Pakistan's go to man this series, comes in to save them. Sharma goes into the slips, Raina under the helmet at forward short leg, India attacking the Pakistani captain. A couple of singles, Shafiq comes down the wicket to guide it on the leg side. Misbah starts calmly as usual.

  •

    Over 15 Pak 56/2 (Akmal 21, Shafiq 5)

Some good fielding from the Indians, denying Shafiq the single. Shafiq is a promising player for Pakistan, a good score here will give him loads of confidence. Stylish, wristy shot from Shafiq for a couple of runs on the leg side. Pitched up, driven and stopped by Raina.

  •

    Over 14 Pak 54/2 (Akmal 21, Shafiq 3)

Spin in the form of R Ashwin is introduced into the attack, good move from Dhoni. A slip and a leg slip for the spinner, Shafiq on strike. A hint of spin for Ashwin, Akmal is surprised with the bounce too. Three runs from the over.

  •

    Over 13 Pak 51/2 (Akmal 20, Shafiq 1)

The break has been a short one and sun is shining in Birmingham. Dhoni has a quick chat with his troops and Pakistani batsmen look to settle at the crease. This short break should hurt Pakistan more than India, Pakistani batsmen were set at the crease and India got some time to regroup. It is a packed off side field, so Kumar will look to bowl that line. WICKET! A breakthrough straight after the break, Hafeez edges one to the keeper, Kumar gets his second wicket of the day. Asad Shafiq walks out into the middle to join Akmal. It was a length ball and Hafeez edges it, Dhoni does well to complete a low one handed catch. The field changes for the new batsman, a slip and more fielders inside the circle. A single and a wicket from the over

  •

    Rain delays play

The umpires are looking towards the skies and decide to bring the covers on as rain delays play. It was raining a couple of overs ago, then a bit of sunshine and now raining again. It is going to be that kind of a day today, difficult for both sides. Pakistan have a decent start, building a partnership after the early loss. India have looked to keep the runs down and attack in the field.

  •

    Over 12 Pak 50/1 (Akmal 20, Hafeez 27)

Sharma to continue, the batsmen looking to explode now. Sharma bowls it down leg and a shout for caught behind, umpire not interested. Hot spots shows it just clipped Hafeez's thigh, would have been a wide otherwise. Akmal plays a controlled pull, keeping it down and getting a single to square leg. India showing some good energy in the field, saving a few runs and keeping the batsmen in check.

  •

    Over 11 Pak 47/1 (Akmal 19, Hafeez 25)

Kumar to continue, Dhoni possibly keeping Yaday for the end of the innings. A single for Hafeez down to fine leg, the short ball from Kumar not working so well. Chance of a difficult catch at mid off, but Karthik just misses it, good attempt, also saves a few runs. A chance of a run out but Yadav misses the stumps, Hafeez would have been just safe, direct hit would have been interesting.

  •

    Over 10 Pak 43/1 (Akmal 16, Hafeez 24)

Pakistan are going at exactly 4 runs per over, Hafeez will be looking to increase that. A much better line from Sharma to start this over, bowling around off stump rather than on middle and leg. The umpire checking the bowler's run up to see if he is running on the danger area of the pitch. Indian batsmen would not want that either, because it will help Ajmal. Four, Hafeez walks across his stumps and plays it to fine leg for four, a classy shot for four. Seven from the over, Pakistan 43 for 1 after 10.

  •

    Over 9 Pak 36/1 (Akmal 15, Hafeez 18)

The last three overs have really been good for Pakistan, who have switched gears and looked completely different. Kumar runs in to bowl his 5th over. Dhoni will be searching for another wicket from Kumar, just to put a bit more pressure on Pakistan. Kumar continues to swing the ball and beats the outside edge of the bat, accurate bowling from him. A good over for India, just one run from it.

  •

    Over 8 Pak 35/1 (Akmal 14, Hafeez 18)

After a couple of expensive overs, Dhoni changes the bowling by introducing Ishant Sharma into the attack. It is drizzling with a bit of sunshine, must be difficult for the batsmen to concentrate. Almost a wide ball from Sharma, but Kamran gets a bit of pad on it. Four, Akmal cuts it hard through the point region for four, good shot. This fielding unit is better than the ones in the past for India, youngsters bringing good energy to the field. Sharma strays down leg and Hafeez gets a boundary at fine leg, poor bowling

  •

    Over 7 Pak 26/1 (Akmal 9, Hafeez 14)

Akmal joins the action by walking out of his crease and lifting one from his pads for a four on leg side, Pakistan switching gears quickly. Inside edge goes past the stumps and keeper for four, unlucky for Kumar. It was a good ball but Hafeez is lucky to get four. It is beginning to rain, a few umbrellas in the crowd. End of a good over for Pakistan. After 7 it is 26 for 1.

  •

    Over 6 Pak 17/1 (Akmal 4, Hafeez 10)

Yadav and Kumar are a good combination, one having the extra pace and the other being able to swing the ball. Pakistani batsmen are looking uncomfortable at the crease, a few edges and mistimed shots. Four, great shot, Hafeez plays this one confidently through the off side for four, signature Hafeez. He then pulls a short one from Yadav for four on the leg side to end the over well.

  •

    Over 5 Pak 7/1 (Akmal 3, Hafeez 1)

Kumar continues to bowl well. It is also important to keep the scoring rate in check while picking up wickets on this ground. A maiden from Kumar.

  •

    Over 4 Pak 7/1 (Akmal 3, Hafeez 1)

Hafeez edges it to third man, a tentative shot, pushing at the ball rather than hitting it. The extra pace of Yadav causing a few problems for Hafeez, the bat coming down after the ball has gone past.

  •

    Over 3 Pak 4/1 (Akmal 1, Hafeez 0)

WICKET! Kumar gets the first wicket, Jamshed who survived a lbw decision edges to ball to Raina at second slip. Pakistan lose their first wicket, Jamshed gone for 2, Hafeez comes to the crease. Kumar awarded for some consistent seam and swing. A successful over for India.

  •

    Over 2 Pak 4/0 (Akmal 1, Jamshed 2)

Umesh Yadav starts with a possible wicket, umpire gives it out, Jamshed consulting with the non-striker and then going for the review. Height could be a factor, also the line. A good review from Jamshed, it was going over the stumps after pitching in line. Another good over from India.

  •

    Over 1 Pak 3/0 (Akmal 1, Jamshed 2)

Pakistan starting with a different combination, with Jamshed and Akmal. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to start for India, Dhoni trusting the youngster with the new ball. Interesting choice to bowl first after winning the toss, may be the possibility of showers had to do something with it. A hint of swing for Kumar. The breeze helping Kumar to swing the ball. An inswinger taking Akmal's outside edge but falling short of the slips. A good first over from India, three for no loss.

  •

It is bright and sunny in Birmingham, but showers are expected later today. This could be interesting if the dreaded D/L method comes into play again today. It is a dead rubber, with Pakistan out of the tournament and India having qualified for the semi finals, but it is still India versus Pakistan!

  •

    Pakistan XI

Nasir Jamshed, Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Hafeez, Asad Shafiq, Umar Amin, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Saeed Ajmal, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan.

India are unchanged, while Pakistan have replaced Imran Farhat with Asad Shafiq.

  •

    Toss

Mahendra Singh Dhoni triumphs in the flip of the coin and India will bowl first.

  •

    What Is On The Line

India have already booked a semi-final berth on the back of victories over South Africa and the West Indies, while Pakistan have been booted out of contention in the wake of defeats to the same teams. This game, however, can't be accused of being a deadrubber - their is always plenty to play for when these sub-continental rivals meet.
