• West Indies 105 all out

Australia were clinical, and Steven Smith was particularly impressive - especially the doozie that did for Pollard. But West Indies were abysmally bad. They are heading out of the tournament unless they can somehow bowl Australia out for 81 or less. Where's that priest?

  •

    Over 19 Watson 1-0-0-6-0-0

105ao - Watson returns, and Miller picks up a single to take the Windies to 99. Benn then continues perfecting the play and miss outside off stump before, satisfied he's got that particular shot sorted, swats a mystified Watson over midwicket for a six. Amazing. Back to the play and miss after that, and once again Benn plays it beautifully. WICKET! Watson's seen enough of this, and produces the yorker that he should probably have wheeled out five balls earlier. Anyhoo, West Indies have been rolled over for a paltry 105 and are bowing out of this tournament.

  •

    Over 18 Tait 0wd-1-1-1-0-0-0

98-9 - The West Indies fans in the stands have turned to prayer. The Minister is here with his bible preaching to the masses. Appropriately enough, Ian Bishop is on commentary. Sadly, Ian Chappell is not. Tait swings one past Benn's outside edge, and Haddin's impassioned appeals are turned down. Maybe the prayers are working.

  •

    Over 17 Nannes 0-2-0-1-0-0

94-9 - Deadly Dirk's back into the attack, and it's therefore something of a surprise to see the West Indies take their innings into an 18th over given Nannes' wicket-taking antics in this tournament.

  •

    Over 16 Johnson 0-0-1-1-1nb-1-0

91-9 - Drop! A rare Aussie blemish as captain Clarke drops a difficult one-handed chance diving away to his left. Johnson is then penalised for a high no-ball that's even above Big Benn's waist height. All helps West Indies stumble into the 90s, and they might reach three figures yet.

  •

    Over 15 D Hussey W-2-1lb-W-1-0

86-9 WICKET! Sarwan has stood and watched the nonsense unfold from the other end. Now, after painstakingly reaching 26, he tries a big shot against David Hussey's part-time efforts and only manages to pick out David Warner on the long-off fence. Nikita Miller is the new batsman, with the West Indies plan now presumably just to bat out the overs. WICKET! Apparently that was not the plan. Apparently the plan was to close your eyes, have a big swing at the ball and slice it to short third-man. Taylor follows the plan perfectly to bring Sulieman Benn to the crease.

  •

    Over 14 Clarke 1-0-1-1-0-0

82-7 - This time Clarke does get a cheap over under his belt.

  •

    Over 13 Smith 1-0-W-W-0-2

79-7 WICKET! Lovely bowling from Smith, dragging Pollard forward and then spinning the ball sharply past the batsman as he gropes desperately for the ball. Haddin completes the formalities. WICKET! And another! Darren Sammy tries to work his first ball into the legside but gets a leading edge straight back to the bowler. Jerome Taylor survives the hat-trick ball, and picks up two from the last ball of the over with a powerful cut shot through point. Superb over from Smith, though, to complete a superb spell: 4-0-20-3

  •

    Over 12 Clarke 1-1-1-0-0-6

76-5 - Michael Clarke brings himself on for a bowl and looks like sneaking in a cheap over until Pollard slaps the last ball over midwicket for his first six.

  •

    Over 11 Smith 0-1-1-4-0-0

67-5 - Pollard slaps a boundary through the covers, but three dot balls hurt the West Indies. Not looking good for the hosts here.

  •

    Over 10 Johnson 0-1-0wd-W-1-0-1

61-5 WICKET! Sri Lanka can probably start preparing for a semi-final against England on Thursday. The Windies are five down as Ramdin nicks Johnson through to Haddin. Kieron Pollard strides

  •

    Over 9 Smith 2-1-0-W-1-1

58-4 WICKET! West Indies subsiding here after their fast start. Narsingh Deonarine tries to get a move on as soon as he arrives in the middle, and slog-sweeps Smith straight into Mike Hussey's hands at deep square-leg. Picked the field out perfectly. "Hit 'em where they ain't," chunters Chappelli on commentary. Denesh Ramdin is the new batsman.

  •

    Over 8 Johnson 4-1lb-1-0-0-1

53-3 - Cracking shot from Sarwan, shuffling right across his stumps to flick Johnson down to the fine-leg fence to bring up West Indies' half-century. Bravo goes all out for a pull shot, but - luckily for him - miscues it so badly it doesn't even carry to the fielder in the deep. WICKET! His luck doesn't hold for long, though, as Sarwan's sweet straight drive is deflected into the non-striker's stumps by the bowler. Bravo gone by a yard.

  •

    Over 7 Smith 1-0-1-2-1-1

46-2 - Spin for the first time as Steven Smith comes on for a bowl. Brad Haddin's awareness almost gets a bonus wicket as Sarwan moves his back foot after missing a cut shot. But he dragged the foot rather than lifting it, and the third umpire spares him. Smith generally dropping a touch short, but he's getting some turn and at least keeping the ball one side of the wicket so far. Just four singles and a two from the over.

  •

    Over 6 Tait 0-0-0-0-1-0

40-2 - Dwayne Bravo is the new batsman, and he survives a concerted leg-before shout from the returning Tait. Very close, but Rudi Koertzen reckons it's sliding down leg, and he's probably got a point. Superb over from Tait to end the Powerplay, though, with just a single off it. West Indies are trying to set the pace here, but Australia are keeping the hosts in check and have two key wickets for their efforts.

  •

    Over 5 Johnson 0-0wd-4-0-0-4-W

39-2 - One left-arm speedster replaces the other as Mitchell Johnson enters the fray. He too goes to the short ball early, but sends it sailing high over Shiv's head and gives Billy B the chance to stretch his arms. Another wristy flick through the legside brings Chanderpaul four more, but he fails to pierce the infield with a couple of sweetly-timed drives. This prompts Chanderpaul to eschew orthodoxy and start channelling Eoin Morgan as he jumps across his stumps and flicks the ball over short fine-leg for four more. WICKET! But that's the end of Shiv's fun as he skies the last ball over mid-on, and David 'NotMike' Hussey scurries back and takes a marvellous over-the-shoulder catch.

  •

    Over 4 Watson 0-4-0-1-1-0

30-1 - Shane Watson comes into the attack and tests Sarwan with a short ball. Sarwan passes said test in fine style, fetching the ball from outside off stump and away to the midwicket boundary.

  •

    Over 3 Nannes 0-2-0-0-1-1

24-1 - Good second over from Nannes. Chanderpaul flicks to fine-leg for a couple, but just two more singles come from the over. The Sri Lankan team are keen observers on the sidelines, but they look fairly relaxed.

  •

    Over 2 Tait 0-1lb-4-0-2-1

20-1 - Shaun Tait shares the new ball for the Aussies. Chanderpaul appears in the mood today, and slaps a wide ball through point for his second boundary. A clip off the toes brings two more runs, and the hosts' strategy is clear here. They know they need a big total to get through here, and aren't going to let the early loss of Gayle alter the gameplan.

  •

    Over 1 Nannes 0wd-4-W-1-4-1-1

12-1 WICKET! Rarely dull, this Twenty20 lark. Every right-thinking person's favourite Aussie/Dutch cricketer/skier starts with a wide, and follows it up with a half-volley that Chris Gayle thumps dismissively back down the ground for four. Barely have the cheers of the crowd died down before Nannes swings a searing 90mph effort through Gayle's defences and into the off stump after a deflection off the pads. Ram Sarwan is in at number three and immediately off the mark. Shiv Chanderpaul flicks a four through midwicket before the first over ends in boring fashion with a couple of singles.

  • Feedback

Due to the unhelpful timing of this match, and my unbridled amateurism, I've not dragged myself into the office for this. Instead, I'm sat on my sofa in my pants. Excellent. Downside is, I can't get my emails. If you want to get in touch, you can be all modern like and send a message on twitter to @tickerscricket. Don't worry - I was joking about my pants earlier. I'm not wearing any.

  • Toss

West Indies have won the toss and chosen to bat first. That means they can now get a total and try to defend a target 24 lower. Yes, boffins? Heh? The boffins say yes.

  •

    Likelihood

Australia would have to lose by 150 runs to go out. There are calculators exploding in the background. I think it's fair to say the Aussies are through.

  •

    Maths

We've had the boffins working overtime with the abacuses (abaci?) and this is what they've come up with: West Indies need to win by 24 runs if they bat first, or chase inside 17 overs if they bat second, otherwise the hosts are out. Don't hold me to that though. I don't fully trust those boffins.

    Welcome

to the final game of the Super Eight stage of the World Twenty20 between Australia and the hosts West Indies in St Lucia. After Sri Lanka's stunning last-ball victory over India, West Indies have to win and win well to keep Kumar Sangakkara's men out of the semi-finals, while Australia would have to get absolutely whipped to lose their last-four spot. Australia, though, will be keen to get the victory that secures top spot and means they'll avoid form side England. Still seems strange typing that.
