Jamie Moore on Chris Eubank, Billy Joe Saunders, Tyson Fury and Prizefighter...

Junior should get rid of Senior, says debut Prizefighter trainer

We're already looking ahead so Jamie Moore wants Chris Eubank Jnr to be his own man, says Wladimir Kitschko should take Tyson Fury now and of course, it's Prizefighter time... from a trainer's perspective!

Now you are a trainer, what did you make of what you saw from the Eubank corner?

Jamie says: I've got to say first of all that Chris Eubank Jnr is going to be a fantastic fighter... as long as he sorts out what went on in the corner. Not his trainer, Ronnie Davis, but the cornerwork and what was going on - it was a shambles. It was the Chris Eubank Snr show, which was bang out-of-order in my book and he should allow his son to be himself and his own man, not Chris Eubank Snr Mk II. The advice in the corner was terrible and even when he was clearly losing after the first six rounds, there was no structure. Ronnie Davies did try and give him advice - and good advice - but he was told to shut up, it appeared. You could not have made it up, or written a script that was as bad as that! But there is no doubt Eubank Jnr pushed Billy Joe Saunders hard in the second half of the fight off his own back, and it shows how good he can be in the future. But to do that, he's got to have a quiet word with his dad and map his own plan out.

What about the winner? Was that the best you've seen from Billy Joe Saunders?

Jamie says: I think it was - and it had to be. We all hear about what goes on in sparring and Eubank Jnr was taking on super-middleweights and giving them a run for their money as well and we knew he could mix it, so we had a rough idea of how good he could be. He hadn't been tested but even so, it was a great performance and a great result for Saunders - and as time goes on, it will look better and better. The good thing is we all talk about how Eubank is going to learn and adapt on that fight, well so is Saunders - and get better. The loser says the rematch will be different because of what he has taken on board but that will also apply to Saunders. He was fantastic in the first half of the fight but was left hanging on a bit in the second half and didn't really stamp his authority on the fight and I would imagine, he knows now he needs to really, really push himself. I am sure we will see a better Billy Joe Saunders, don't worry about that.

The heavyweight showdown didn't exactly spark into life, but let's try and cling on to a positive...

Jamie says: Heavyweights are always down to your own personal taste and I am a Tyson Fury fan. We have seen glimpses of him as a southpaw and I think he fought the whole fight against Martin Rogan like that, but to do it in a fight of that magnitude, showed just how smart - and good - he is. It was probably all part of the tactics that worked but I was impressed, I really was. He made what could've been a tough night's work very, very easy for himself. He is improving all the time and he is only 25, so let's wait to see what he's like when he's 32 or 33. He could be something...

Will we have to wait that long to see him take on the best?

Jamie says: If I was Wladimir Klitschko, I would take him next. Fury is up for the fight and you know he will have a few things up his sleeve in the run-up but in terms of his boxing ability, he is getting better and better while I think Klitschko has reached the peak of the mountain, so he can only go one way. The more time goes on, the more chance Fury has of beating Klitschko so if Wladimir is going to give him a crack, I think he should fight him next.

And of course, it's Prizefighter this weekend. Looking forward to it?

Jamie says: Well, I am a fan because Prizefighter's style suited me down to the ground! It is not for the purists but believe me, it is excitement, something always happens and it will get the casual fans watching boxing again. That said, I have Stephen Foster Jnr in this one so I am not going to be looking in as a fan! I am sure York Hall is going to be buzzing, but I have no idea what it's going to be like as a trainer in there! I've never done a corner for Prizefighter before but my old mentor Oliver Harrison - and he took Martin Murray and Rocky Fieding all the way - and I was in the gym wih them, so I have seen how you have to change the way to train for it. It is not a normal fight; you have to get the body used to fighting and getting up, then down, then warming-up and going again, so I have put that in gym with Stephen. And I hope it pays off...
