Khan: had too much for Molina

Johnny Nelson believes Amir Khan is ready for a rematch with Danny Garcia after his comprehensive defeat of Carlos Molina.

Khan bounced back from his knockout loss to Garcia - which cost him his WBA light welterweight title - with a stylish win over previously undefeated Mexiacan-American Molina.

The Bolton fighter had too much for the home-town boy in Los Angeles and now, according to Nelson, should now be targeting another bout with Garcia.

"I'd put him back in with Danny Garcia now," Nelson told Sky Sports. "That's the fight he wants and that's the fight he needs.

"Amir couldn't have done the job any better than he did. It was punch-perfect."
Jim Watt

"Amir will have his critics and people will say Molina couldn't punch - but that's not the case. Molina was a tough, tough opponent for him to come back against after his devastating knockout to Garcia.

"But he's had a new birth with Virgil Hunter. He's clearly not the finished article but you can see his new trainer's influence on his fight game.

"Khan used his brain. You could see at times he wanted to get involved in a war but he backed off, which was nice to see. He'll get better as long as he keeps on listening."

Plan

Jim Watt, who was also ringside for the fight, was even more impressed with the performance from Khan and applauded the sometimes hot-headed boxer for sticking to the gameplan.

Khan ends losing streak

"Amir couldn't have done the job any better than he did," said Watt. "It was punch-perfect.

"We saw the speed, the combinations, he gave us the drama, he gave us everything - but he did it to a plan. He picked his times to go to work and he didn't do anything silly.

"He got tagged a few times in the fight but he didn't react in a macho manner. He took his shots, covered up and started again. He fought in bursts and all great fighters fight in bursts. Amir did that terrifically tonight."

Like Nelson, Watt is also keen to see Khan take on Garcia and try to reclaim his world title.

"Khan is a world-class fighter and he should be chasing world titles now," he said.

"He is not going to get a lot better than he is. His attitude has changed under his new trainer so get him moving back up straight away."
