Team GB boxer Nicola Adams has won a gold medal at the inaugural European Games in Baku.

The 32-year-old Olympic champion got the better of Poland’s Sandra Drabnik on a majority points decision in the flyweight final.

Adams split the judges in the first of the four rounds but, following those tight opening exchanges, she began to take full control.

She connected with a pair of fine left hands in the second round and then turned on the style in the third as she closed in on another gold.

And the imperious Adams clearly had victory sewn up in the final round, although Drabnik gamely attempted to turn the tide.

Two of the judges scored the fight 39-37 in favor of the British boxer, with the third ruling the bout a 38-38 draw.

Victory was particularly sweet for Adams because she has had to return from complicated shoulder surgery and missed out on the chance to win a first world title last year.

Adams said: "I feel fantastic and I can't believe I am bringing home another piece of history for Great Britain. It's great to be able to create history all the time.

"I trained really hard for these European Games. I just wanted to show everybody what I am about and that I am here to stay.

"I am like a comeback kid, you can never keep me down for long."

Adams is now looking towards the qualifiers for the Rio Olympics next year.

"Touch wood, I haven't had any injuries so far, and I am hoping it will stay this way all the way to Rio," she added.
