Promoter Eddie Hearn believes the prospect of an all-British world title unification between Scott Quigg and Carl Frampton is “dead in the water”.
WBA super-bantamweight champion Quigg and Belfast boxer Frampton, who holds the IBF title, have been involved in on-and-off talks over a showdown for months.
But writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Hearn says he has received no response from Frampton’s camp despite repeated attempts to try and strike a deal.
“After a disappointing couple of weeks it seems that my hopes to stage Carl Frampton-Scott Quigg this summer are dead in the water,” Hearn wrote.
“We received no offers from their side and made three of our own. We offered a 50-50 split, a 60-40 in favour of the winner and also a £1.5m guarantee to Frampton. I sent that last offer in writing to them and had no response.
“You ask yourself who is making these decisions? It is life-changing money for Frampton that has been offered. Let’s hope they don’t spend the rest of their lives kicking themselves.
“Scott will move on and fight on July 18. I can guarantee that in his next fight he will fight a tougher opponent than Frampton will.”
