Carl Frampton will defend his world title against Chris Avalos in Belfast on February 28.

The IBF super-bantamweight champion is back on home territory for the first defence of the belt he took from Kiko Martinez in the city's Titanic Quarter in September.

The fight will be a first at world level for Avalos, a 25-year-old American with two defeats on his record who won a title eliminator against Yasutaka Ishimoto in May.

Avalos was in confident mood at a press conference to announce the show, claiming: "I am going to win, and it will be by knockout."

Frampton said: "I can guarantee I am going to beat Chris Avalos convincingly."

And the unbeaten champion's trainer Shane McGuigan was blunter, saying: "Carl is going to warm his hands up for four rounds and will knock this loudmouth out before the eighth."

The long-term aim for Frampton is a unification fight with WBA champion Scott Quigg, who has been forced to call off his own March defence after surgery on a damaged hand.
