Callum Smith is relishing the pressure of performing on the big stage as he nears his crucial clash with Nikola Sjekloca.

The 24-year-old super-middleweight is one of the most exciting talents in this country and joins a host of big names on the undercard of Nathan Cleverly’s rematch with Tony Bellew on November 22, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Smith has made smooth progress since turning professional, with 11 stoppages in his 14-fight unbeaten record, but faces his sternest test against Sjekloca, a former world title challenger.

The experienced Montenegrin lasted the distance against WBO champion Arthur Abraham in May, dropping a points decision, and victory for Smith could pave the way for some major fights in 2015.

A future fight against domestic rival George Groves has been discussed in recent months, but Smith must firstly impress in front of his hometown fans at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.

“Preparations have been spot on. I’m in great shape now,” he told Sky Sports News HQ.

“The hard work’s done. There a lot of good fighters on the bill and I’m just happy to be part of the big shows.

“It’s a massive fight, a massive step-up for me on paper, but it’s a step-up that I feel I’m ready for. I wouldn’t take the fight if I didn’t believe that. I think the better opponent will bring out the better performance from me.

“A win can put me in line for some big fights in 2015.“
