Stuey Hall's attempt to win back his IBF bantamweight title ended in disappointment.

The Darlington man, who lost the belt to Paul Butler last June in only his second defence, was beaten by Randy Caballero on points as he tried to win the vacant belt.

Butler has of course vacated it leaving the former holder to travel down to Monaco to see if he could reclaim what he had won back in December 2013, beating Vusi Malinga - who was beaten by Gavin McDonnell in Hull on Saturday night.

Hall's challenge got off to bad start when he was floored in the second round by a straight left but although he was back on his feet, it set the tone.

Caballero had not boxed beyond 10 rounds before but 10 years younger than Hall, 34, he never looked in trouble and controlled the fight for large periods of the 12 rounds

In the end Hall (16-3-2) was on the wrong end of a unanimous decision - 116-111, 116-111, 118-110 - leaving him wondering where to go next, with unbeaten Cabellero (22-0) possibly a new start in the bantamweight division.
