George Groves would prefer to see Gennady Golovkin go down - and face Floyd Mayweather.

The European super-middleweight champion watched the middleweight king win again, on Live Fight Night Internatonal in the early hours of Sunday morning.

There's so many names in and around the light-middleweight division that there are so many great fights that can be made.

Groves and fellow pundit Jamie Moore agreed there is little left for 'GGG' in his current division following the second round knockout of Marco Antonio Rubio, who had failed to make the middleweight limit by two pounds.

And although Groves would welcome him to the super-middleweight scene, the man who has sparred and trained with him before believes there are bigger fights for Golovkin beneath him – especially against the best in the world.

"I'd love to see it," Groves told Sky Sports about the possibility of Golovkin and Mayweather fighting.

"When I went out to train with him and hazarded a guess, it would've been that he goes down, rather than up - and maybe there are bigger fights if he moves down.

"There’s [Miguel] Cotto, [Saúl] Alvarez and Mayweather or [Manny] Pacquiao... so many names in and around the light-middleweight division and so many great fights that can be made."

Gennady Golovkin has called out Miguel Cotto after his latest knockout victory over Marco Antonio Rubio.

Miguel Cotto is the other big name in the middleweight division and GGG called him out again after the Rubio win, even though the Puerto Rican is a natural light-middleweight.

And Groves believes they could well meet at the lower weight simply because it will suit the Kazakhstan-born fighter, physically at least.

"I think Gennady can lose a bit more weight because he is so comfortable at middleweight," he said.

"I don't think he's the biggest middleweight out there. He's in shape; he boxes so regularly he is always in shape."
