Promoter Eddie Hearn hopes Kell Brook and Amir Khan will fight next summer

Promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that bitter rivals Kell Brook and Amir Khan could warm-up for a summer showdown by fighting on the same night in December.

The 'Special One' paved the way for a future fight with Khan after taking the IBF welterweight title from Shawn Porter with a majority decision win in California, on Saturday night.

In the aftermath the Sheffield man called for a clash with Khan, who admitted he would settle their feud once Brook became a world champion.

Brook keen on Khan

Hearn believes the British battle could prove as popular as Carl Froch-George Groves II, which drew a crowd of nearly 80,000 to Wembley in May.

But they will not meet until next summer, with the pair expected to fight separate opponents on December 6, before colliding later in 2015.

"I think it's unlikely next. Kell is looking at December 6 at Sheffield Arena and Khan is also talking about fighting on the same night," he told The Morning View on Sky Sports News HQ.

"This is an event that I feel has a real outdoor feel to it. I think it can be as big as Carl Froch-George Groves II, the recent event which was wonderful for British boxing.

"I think Brook against Khan, if built correctly for a world title, can do similar kind of numbers.

"It's a fight that Kell has craved for many years and now he's got the belt. There's no reason for Amir to avoid him anymore and hopefully we can begin talks and get that made for a huge event next summer."

Brook is now one of the belt holders in boxing’s hottest division, including superstars such as Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Hearn accepts that the new world champion is not yet on the pair's radar, but believes he could be considered after a few more notable wins.

"There are three champions in the welterweight division, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Kell Brook," he said.

"It's wonderful company and a fight with either of those is a unification fight and a big fight.

"I think Kell has to establish his profile more in the States, command some more impressive victories, and then definitely in the mix for Floyd Mayweather in 2015. Why not?

"If Floyd fancies something special, I'm sure we wouldn't have a problem selling out Wembley with that one."

But Khan is the main target for Brook at the moment after a war of words which stretches back over a number of years.

"There is some serious beef between Kell Brook and Amir Khan," said Hearn. "They cannot stand each other and I think that those rivalries are always something very special.

"It's a war of the roses, Lancashire against Yorkshire. Two very, very good fighters."
